To advance our continuing study of coast defenses, we are compiling a list of surviving American seacoast artillery artifacts to complement our list of surviving American seacoast artillery weapons. Elliot Deutsch, an antique-machine enthusiast, has begun posting submissions to a master database for future publication. The list will contain: Substantially complete artifacts in collections available to the public, to include: ammunition hoists (Please Note: only those that are complete or in working condition - Hodges, Taylor-Raymond, Balanced Platform or inclined-plane type); communication equipment; data-transmission systems; fire-control instruments; generators; mines and mine-related equipment; plotting-room instruments; searchlights; specialized furniture like circular DPF benches; subcaliber firing platforms; switchboards etc.
The list will not contain: artifacts in a) private collections or b) weapons, parts of weapons, or any buildings or structures (these are parts of other lists, such as the CDSG surviving weapons list and the location database).
