I am researching a coastal defense site in a town called Manuels, in Conception Bay, Newfoundland, Canada. I think this site would have been established to protect Bell Island, where a large iron ore mine was located. The son of the man on whose land the gun emplacements were erected, believes they were constructed in 1941. I cannot find any pictures of the site from this time and the two gun emplacements have since been covered with topsoil and sod. All that remains above ground is a concrete pillar that supported the lookout tower. Any suggestions on potential sources of information would be greatly appreciated.
