As part of preparing the park for the America's Cup challenge race in June 2012, the State removed Beech trees along the remains along the East side of the fort / crownworks - along the parking lot. See picture below. This is work we had anticipated during as part of the Open the Fort project anyway. The trees were modern additions to the slope, and are /were very damaging to the works.

The remainder of the pictures show working behind done as part of the Trust's "Open the Fort" initiative. Our contractors were eager to get to work and get things underway before the real winter weather sets in...

Removal of metal fencing (non-historic)inside the parade

Fences gone!

Debris removal

Clearing the outerworks - East demi-bastion of the crownwork.

Looking south - coverface on left, wall of east demi-bastion on right

View from atop the glacis at the Salient Place d'Arms looking back at the East demi-bastion of the crownwork.

Atop the glacis looking East toward the Place d'Arms - note traverse.

Looking West toward the tenaille - pair of traverses here.

Looking West at the double staircase / Caponnier area. East tenaille is under brush behind telephone pole on right. Note remains of brestwork of Re-entering Place d'Arms on the other side of the fence in Navy housing area.

Work in progress on full bastion of the crownwork. Note truncated traverses along the top of the wall.

Reverse view from ground left (looking East) showing the truncated traverses.

Ha - I feel naked now in the outerworks. No line of trees / brush to shield us from Navy Housing.
