Hello, new here.
I often spectate these forums but after I read the article below I signed up to see if I can get any feedback on this. I often visit bunkers and have pretty much been at or inside nearly all the coastal defense structures around the SF Bay Area. I am surprised how many there are and how concentrated they are to each other.

It's my side hobby.

I got excited when I read this. Let me hear your brains.

Thats a great story. Seeing a lot of the Northeast sites, it makes me want to head west to better weather and more old fortifications!

are they getting a 16" gun or something else? wish we had some guns here in new england Sad I think they have one AA gun left on Newcastle, NH but its not mounted, it's in a small building, maybe the powerhouse I forget. There are others around various towns here but I'd like to see some mounted besides cannons.

Yes - Battery Townsley in HD San Francisco has one 16" barrel reserved for it. Also Fort Miles in Delaware has one reserved as well.

There are lots of fortifications here concentrated in relevantly close area here. One of the things I wish I had access too was the magazines,, especially the ones welded shut in Marin that are all over the place in the hillsides.

I wonder if they'd ever activate the gun for a yearly firing, that be pretty cool.

Looks like one of the 16" barrels is on its way to Arizona along with a 14" barrel that was on the USS Arizona.

Here is an update from a friend who volunteers at the lands end overlook visitor center which has allot of info on the coastal defenses. It just opened up not too long ago.

Once a part of the USS Missouri!
Get ready to visit Townsley guys. I am going to miss the flooded turret, it had lots of orange nutes in it.

From Paul who volunteers at the overlook.

"The page will be updated as the gun's arrival date draws closer and during the actual move from Nevada to Fort Cronkhite. (As a historic footnote, transportation of the gun will be carried out by Bigge Crane & Rigging, the same firm that moved Townsley's original guns from Sausalito to the battery in 1939.)

Tentative date for the move has been set for the week of September 10, 2012."
