The purpose of this post is to recognize all the hard efforts of our volunteers out at the Advanced Redoubt of Fort Adams this summer. We've had groups from Alton

Jones and Salve. In addition, we've received a HUGE amount of effort from the Navy Supply School at Newport. Capt Davis, and Lt. O'Brien have helped us organize a

series of workdays at the Redoubt. I would estimate that we had 2 dozen volunteers on the two days we've had so far. Our next couple of workdays at the redoubt

will be Sat. Oct 8th and Sat. Nov 5th.

Workday 7-16-2011

"Before" pictures - those of you on the St Babs tour maybe surprised at the amount of growth in just a few months...

Upper brush pile nearly invisible in the new growth.

Ground level view in the ditch - sumacs nearly 8' tall here! This was cleared to the ground back in April.

"After" views of the interior of the Redoubt. Note floors swept clean of dirt and debris by the the URL/Alton Jones program and students from Salve.

The Alton Jones folks also helped clean the enlisted men's barracks and helped paint a cannon.

The volunteers from Salve also helped clear the doublestair case of dirt and debris, cleared brush at the SouthWest battery (Crownworks), and painted panels for the

upcoming "Fortress of Nightmares" fund-raiser.

Morning briefing for Navy Supply School instructors and students...

Hauling brush piles out of the inner ditch

Work in Progress

For the weekend of 9/17-9/18, we rented a chipper to chop up some of the brush. On Saturday we were supported once again by a great turn out of volunteers from the

Navy Supply School. On Sunday, a number of our hard-core volunteers showed up. In addition, Dave P. from the Yahoo Coast Defense list and Wayne Farrington of CDSG

turned out to support us.

Workday 9-18-2011

George at work with his new trimmer, clearing the top of the redan in front of the bridge.

Making sure the dumpster is 100% full! Raking the pile into the corners...

Newly cleard redan...seems like years since its been clear.

Shot showing the well defined banquette (firing step) in redan.

View into the ditch of pile #2 - about 50% gone at this point.

Me - running the chipper.

Note that we are having 2 upcoming workdays. Saturday Oct 8th, 2011 and Saturday Nov 5th, 2011. We still have a lot of brush to get out of the ditch and chip.

Please stop by if you can and help us out!
