Have any of you gents been down to this area, or have photographs of it? With all of the work going on at the fort, is this area ever going to be made accessible to the public?

Yes - I've been there and have photos of it. Will post shortly. There is a great deal of work going on at the Fort this winter. I believe they have already cleared 'debris' from the bowling alley area. I would expect greater public access once the project is complete. Not sure if the public will be allowed into that area specifically.

When you say you are not sure if the public would have access to this area, is there a reason why they would not allow it (structural problem etc)? Do you have any other photos of this area or the shooting range? That is a great photo BTW.

Also, all the work being done at the redoubt, will that be open to the public as well at some point? From what I can see , they are doing a fantastic job there. Makes me very eager to come down and see.

I am not sure what areas of the fort will be open to the public when the current round of work is finished.

Thanks for the kind comments about the Redoubt. Its been an ongoing project of myself, and the site manager. We usually try to have 1 workday a month, but we definitely won't hit that rate this winter. Watch this board for announcements regarding our next workday. I am antiicipating that being in mid to late March.

I may have more pics of the area, and the shooting range area - I will try and put them up soon ( but not today).

I look forward to seeing more areas of the fort that aren't accessible to the general public, thank you.

Closer look at the Bowling alley "before" cleanup

"After" image of bowling alley - Ann Beha photo - I've been told that a ball and pin were recovered from the debris

Shooting Range:

A Closer look at the back of the trap

Side view of bullet trap looking into casemate

Oblique view looking "Up Range" bullet trap off camera to left.

Looking "Up Range" with the bullet trap immediately behind me (or as close as I could get without hitting my head). Wooden boards at the end wall show numerous .22 size bullet holes as well.

Another shot looking "Up Range".

Bullet trap looking "Down Range"

Great photos Zman! Is that fire damage in the range? The cleaned up lanes look really great, what a look back in time!

Yes - unfortunately the fort has suffered a number of fires. Those damaged sections of floor will come down. The good news is that the bowling alley, washroom section, shooting range, heating plant, etc will remain.

I am excited to see those photos! That is incredible, what a great find! What were the expectations when cleaning this area? Finding those must have been the icing on the cake.

Awesome pics! I've seen a few bowling alleys at old hospitals, but not forts. Did many have them?! I don't remember seeing it when I was there, but if it looked like the first picture I probably wouldn't have a clue it was supposed to be a bowling alley lol
